Aries

April 1, 2008

The zodiacal year opens on the first day of spring under Aries, the sign of the Ram. Red hot and unstoppable, Aries is the fire of birth, springtime and all new beginnings. It is the spark of spirit that sets life in motion. Those born under this exuberant sign are filled with adventure, optimism, and the fire of new life.

The world is awakened in springtime. With animation, like clockwork, young green new life appears. Babies of all varieties are everywhere. A joy bubbles forth in Earth’s creatures: the joy of being alive. The Aries among us are similarly filled with joy.

Aries is the Ram, with powerful horns and a plated forehead, enabling him to push his way through obstacles. The Ram is the scout, the pioneer, breaking into new territory. The Ram is courageous and undaunted, making him a powerful leader. And being under the rulership of Mars, he is competitive, making him a good warrior. On the shadow side, he can be reckless, careless, and immoderate due to his unbounded enthusiasm.

Aries is also the Lamb, symbol of springtime joy and innocence. Jesus is correctly called the Lamb of God because his strength derives from his innocence. He came to show us the way out of the guilt eternal winter.

Aries is the sign of resurrection and rebirth. This is the Easter celebration. Through forgiveness, Jesus demonstrated power over death. By following his example, we can all free ourselves by forgiving the world. Joy is the consequence of an innocent heart.

The Rams enjoy the innocence of play. They may run over others in their excitement, and they may be overly rough, direct and headstrong, but there is no meanness in them. They see the world like children: things are either black or white. And being the first sign, the sign of coming out, Aries likes to be seen. Be sure and pay plenty of attention to your Aries child and friends.

And being the first sign, Aries rules the head. The Ram is prone to headaches, which are metaphysically linked to guilt. The Ram need only remember his innocence—the innocence of the Lamb—to get rid of headaches for good. Fiery Mars, ruler of Aries is the root cause of all the –itises—diseases of inflammation. Slowing down and relaxing will fade the redness and swelling. Dropping your anger is the next step to good health. Then use Mars playfully, like a frolicking lamb, full of spontaneous exuberance, to stay young.

The days of April 9, 13, 14, 15, 16 are some of the best days this year to make a new start. After all, this is the season of new beginnings and these days the Moon is especially cooperative. April 6, 10, 12, 22, and 29 are not good days for beginnings or purchases. Hard tasks could seem easy on April 25 and 26. No surgeries on April 19, 20, or 21.

The New Aries Moon on April 5 is the newest of all new moons. There will be no better time this year to make a new start than the two weeks between April 5 and 20. Mercury, planet of communication, joins the sun and moon in Aries so new ideas will be coming in fast and furiously. And if this isn’t enough excitement, Venus enters Aries also on April 6, favoring creative ventures. New love is also a possibility.

Mars, ruler of Aries, has just finished its long retrograde time, and on April 4, returns to the degree where it turned backward. The desire to move forward is strong now. But Mars makes a stressful aspect to this new moon so be careful to look before you leap. Beware of overly aggressive people in real-estate dealings and hot tempers on the home front. There could be political aggression as well since Mars will be on the United States sun at this new moon.

On April 20th, we will see the first of two Full Scorpio Moons, a rare cosmic occurrence. Many astrologers consider the Full Scorpio Moon, the healing moon, to be the most powerful of all full moons. And Stephanie Austin suggests that two full moons in a sign double the power. Look for healings and transformations in all areas.

The moon in Scorpio requires a pruning of the unnecessary, the old and stale from our lives. The sun, now at the first degree of Taurus and completing a grand trine with Saturn and Pluto, shines light on all new earthly endeavors, especially favoring those intended to serve others. First honor the moon, then the sun. And have the courage to make a new start. Remember what Dr. Martin Luther King said: “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step.”
