Aquarius
February 1, 2008
The sun moves into Aquarius, the eleventh sign of the zodiac, on January 20th for its annual 30 day sojourn. This is the sign of the rebel and the innovator. Following conservative Capricorn, Aquarius challenges us to think outside the box and to overcome racial, religious, and nationality differences. The wisdom of the Water-Bearer is inclusion and inventiveness. Aquarius is the third and final air sign, the sign of high intelligence.
As the Sun travels through the zodiac every year, spending 30 days in each of the 12 signs, so also does our Solar System travel through the zodiac. This revolution is called the Presession of the Equinoxes and takes 26,000 years, our longest measurable cycle. Our Solar System stays in each sign 2160 years. Back in1970, watching the naked, stoned, multi-racial dancers in the Broadway production, Hair, we were experiencing the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. Back in 1989, watching the fall of the Berlin Wall, we were experiencing its sunrise.
Unlike our yearly journey around the Sun, our Solar System moves backwards through the signs. We have just left the twelfth sign of the Fish, Pisces. Jesus was our Piscean avatar. He sacrificed his body to prove eternal life. Jesus’ disciples were fishermen. Compassion, forgiveness, and kindness were the virtues of Jesus and the Piscean Age.
Freedom, justice, love, equality: these are the gifts of Aquarius, the sign of Man. The Aquarian message is that all men are brothers, each unique, no one special. The Water Bearer pours out his wisdom for all.
The World Wide Web, an outer manifestation of the Aquarian Age, has indeed flattened the world, making information available to any and all with no need for filtering through doctors, priests, etc. (WWW looks like the Aquarian ripples.) And new revelations about Mary Magdalene (MM, more Aquarian ripples) are marking this as a time for a new mythology, honoring men and women and equals. It’s time to get rid of that Adam and Eve story—the story of woman, the evil temptress of man, needing domination. Equality of the sexes will be possible during the Aquarian Age. This is the time for the Christ-spirit to enter the hearts of man.
Each year the Sun is in Aquarius between January 20th and February 18th. These are some of winter’s coldest days—giving Aquarians an icy detachment that keeps them high-minded and logical. These February days are also days of lengthening light in keeping with this sign’s association with hope and the future.
Many inventors (Thomas Edison), statesmen (Abraham Lincoln), revolutionaries (Angela Davis), and those dedicated to the common good (Oprah Winfrey) are Aquarians. The ruling planet of this sign of high intelligence is Uranus, associated with electricity, eccentricity, and sudden, unexpected change. The co-ruler of this sign of group consciousness is Saturn, reminding us that each group member must be responsible for community to happen and survive.
Shadow Aquarius is the know-it-all. And since Aquarius is the brotherhood sign, another shadow is the betrayer. Group depends on loyalty. Many, including the Italian poet Dante, consider betrayal the worst of all errors since it is a perversion of our highest faculty, our human intelligence. Dante placed Judas, Brutus, and other betrayers in his lowest level of Hell.
Aquarius rules the nervous system of the body as well as the lower legs, ankles, and wrists. Boredom can bring on Restless Leg Syndrome in Aquarians, and high stress levels can cause more serious nerve damage. Relaxation is essential for the well-being of the Water Bearers.
The Aquarian ripples look like energy waves, reminding us that our Aquarian brothers and sisters are attuned to a higher frequency, receiving transmissions from celestial sources. No wonder the children born in the 1990’s are easily bored and distracted in the “normal” classrooms. ADD and ADHD could be manifestations of children not sufficiently challenged. Aging elementary teachers may seem to be talking in slow motion to these children. Many of these babes are the Indigo children, who—vibrating at a high rate—are extremely independent and not interested in being talked down to. They are bringing healing messages for the planet.
Since the moon is waning and approaching eclipse, there are no good days for new beginnings in February until the 11th, before 2 pm. The twelfth, after 1 pm, the 15th, after 11 am, the 16th, after 10 am, and all day the 23rd are other good times this month for purchases and new starts. Be careful buying cars and electronics because Mercury, their ruler, is in apparent backward motion, manifesting more often in his jokester role. No surgeries during the week of the eclipse, February 18th – 23rd.
The New Aquarius Moon this month on February 6 is a powerful solar eclipse. Mercury, planet of communication, and Chiron, the wounded healer, are close by. Astrologer Stephanie Austin suggests that Chiron in Aquarius symbolizes the wound we have experienced from being different or ahead of our time, perhaps a family black sheep. We can heal by joining forces with other black sheep. We know about this in Arivaca, our Aquarian community. At this eclipse, make an intention to increase communication with like minds and visionaries as Neptune is in Aquarius, within a few degrees of the eclipse
The Sun will have moved in to Pisces, the sign of the fish, by the time of the lunar eclipse on February 20th. This eclipsed Full Moon is in Virgo and we can expect to receive information about the big picture and the details, the forest and the trees, the oneness and the separate parts. Astrologer Rose Marcus says that the Virgo-Pisces lunar eclipse suggests that what is lost must be forgotten and what lives on must be made better.
The glyph for Virgo is a combination of the letters M and V, Maria Virgo, the Virgin Mary. She represents the divine feminine birthing the Christ spirit into matter. At this eclipse become that virgin vessel and receive the life light, remembering you are spirit and love in a body.
