Sagittarius
December 1, 2007
Sagittarius, fast and fiery, is the happiest and luckiest sign of the zodiac. Those fortunate enough to be born under the sign of the archer (November 21 – December 21) are the world’s optimists, travelers, philosophers, teachers, and athletes. Sagittarians are generous, fair-minded, adventuresome, and friendly.
Like the archer aiming toward the bull’s eye, Sagittarians are direct in their communication. They always have an opinion which they are more than willing to share, and which they are certain is right on target. Sagittarians are high minded people with the passion and power of the horse. Since Sagittarius is a double sign, half man and half horse, its natives are torn between the party and the retreat. But since this is the sign of the truth seeker, most Sagittarians will turn toward the higher path sooner or later.
Sagittarian energy travels far. The archer is goal oriented, pointing his arrow at 27 degrees Sagittarius, Galactic Center, where waves of information are pouring forth. The centaur wants to expand, seeking truth and new territory. Most Sagittarians love travel, and many live some of their life in a foreign country. This gives them that larger perspective which increases tolerance.
Sagittarian energy travels fast. The race horse is the epitome of this fiery energy of speed with purpose. That running back, streaking toward the goal line is Sagittarius. So is the fast-talking attorney whose goal it is to convince and persuade. The gambler winning big and fast and then losing just as quickly is also Sagittarius.
Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, and like their ruling planet, Sagittarians are often larger than life people. The more evolved Centaurs are big in spirit and strong in faith, often displaying generosity and forgiveness more easily than others. Somewhere, Sagittarians know that giving and receiving are the same. How appropriate that Thanksgiving is the Sagittarian holiday. This is a Sagittarian secret: gratitude increases abundance.
Shadow Sagittarius is the preacher, certain his way is right. It is the friend who tells you what he thinks of you, even if you don’t ask. Challenged, Sagittarius is surprised that others might not be interested in his version of the way it is. Darker shadows are the compulsive gambler who destroys his family’s resources and the religious zealot who is willing to destroy others who don’t accept his truth.
Pluto has been traveling through Sagittarius since the mid nineties, challenging all of us, but especially it’s natives to transform their belief systems. The Iraq War, with its religious overtones, is a manifestation of Pluto’s destructive power, fueled by Sagittarian fanaticism, both sides being certain that their God is right.
Sagittarius, being under the rulership of big Jupiter, appropriately rules the larger body parts, the hips and thighs. The femur or thigh bone is the largest in the body. Here is where red blood cells (metaphysical symbols of joy and happiness) are made deep within the marrow. And this is the part of the body that propels us forward and into the future, the hips and the thighs. Thoughts of restriction and confinement often make hip pain. Seniors who see no future often fall and break a hip. “Hip, hip, hooray. There is joy in everyday,” is healing guru Louise Hay’s affirmation for hip problems.
The best days this month for new beginnings, purchases and surgeries are December 10, 11, 14, 18, and 19(am only). December 24 and 28 are not bad. The bad days for surgery this month fall over the Christmas holiday, a time when elective surgeries are at ebb tide. Watch for issues of aggression and over-indulgence between December 18th and 21st as Mars crosses a sensitive point.
The New Moon of December 9th occurs just two days before the conjunction of Jupiter, the planet of expansion, and Pluto, the planet of depth and transformation, in the sign of the archer near Galactic Center. If you are born near any of the season changes, but especially at the Winter Solstice, expect big changes and big opportunities from now through the 23rd. These are the themes of Jupiter/Pluto: transformation through expansion, judicious use of power, and change for the better.”(Jeff Jawer) Bill Gates has these two planets joined in his money house, for an example of what can happen when these powerful bodies join. But be careful as fanaticism and over optimism could make shadow showings.
The Full Moon this month is December 23rd in early Cancer. This lunation is another powerhouse. The Sun, near the winter solstice point is close to Jupiter and Pluto on Galactic Center. The Full Moon joins Mars and opposes all these planets. Many astrologers will look for severe weather, perhaps earthquakes as well as political violence. The holidays will be either confrontational or raucous with fun and energy. One thing we can be sure of: this year we won’t have “Silent Night.” Capricorn and Cancer are the signs of the father and the mother, the builder and the nurturer. These polarities are clashing now.
The time of big ideas is reaching its conclusion for now. When Jupiter and Pluto move from fiery Sagittarius to earthy Capricorn, which will be soon, it will be time to get down to business and put the new, expanded ideas and beliefs into practice. Enthusiasm can only take you so far. Manifestation, a Capricorn matter, requires elbow grease and determination.
