Scorpio

November 1, 2007

As the days continue to shorten, the sun moves into the sign of the scorpion on October 23rd and stays there 30 days each year. Scorpio is the most intense, passionate, penetrating and ruthless sign of all. It’s rough, following on the heels of sweet Libra, but as Cinderella can attest to, there comes a time when reality must be faced. Now is that time. Leaves fall, reminding us that physical death is the end of the journey here of all living things.

It is in Scorpio that we must confront the dark side of life. Violence, torture, and cruelty live here in the region beyond safe and civilized boundaries. Here is the area of the forbidden and taboo. Scorpio also rules all things mysterious: sex, healing, and death.

The sign of the Scorpion is the second water, plunging us into the depths of feeling arising from our personal relationships. This is the intense area of intimacy and sex where joining happens, or not. We are in the arena now of deep emotional pain, where regeneration or bitterness is the outcome. We must release old habits that no longer work for us, and this happens either voluntarily or by force here in the eighth sign.

Scorpio rules a variety of occupations including undertakers, garbage collectors, surgeons, healers, tax collectors, and insurance agents. Banks, bond markets, and big corporations are under the scorpion’s sign. Well-aspected planets in Scorpio or well-placed Mars and Pluto, Scorpio’s rulers, are good for inheritance and penetrating insight. And you can trust your Scorpio friends with secrets.

It is appropriate that elections are held in early November because, being all about power, they are Scorpio struggles: “conflicts of interest, deep divisions, the supremacy of winning, and the ignominy of losing.” (Ricky Corcilius) Scorpio is a bout abortion and genetic engineering, the seeds of life.

This is the time of year when the veil between the worlds is thinnest. On November 2nd, All Souls Day and the Day of the Dead, there is a powerful opening for connecting with ancestors who have passed over. In Mexico, graves will be cleaned, renewed and decorated now. Some of the most intense activity there will take place in a large cemetery in Nogales, Sonora where hundreds of people will work and eat together in silence. The next day, the cemeteries will be clean and filled with marigolds, the flower of the dead. Here in America, we celebrate this Scorpio time of year with haunted houses and skeletons and ghosts wandering the streets.

Being about regeneration, Scorpio rules the reproductive organs in the body. Any dysfunction in our sexual organs, glands, or body parts is a clue that we aren’t embracing our sexuality fully and lovingly. “I enjoy being a girl”(or boy) is a life affirming thought from Oklahoma.

If possible, put off those new beginnings and purchases until after the New Moon of November 9th. The 11th through the 14th are the best days. The 16th and 17th are also good as well as the 20th and 21st. Avoid surgeries on November 23rd, 24th, and 25th.

The New Scorpio Moon on November 9th is a time to look deeply at your attitudes, to focus and concentrate, and be honest with yourself. It’s time to eliminate any tendencies toward manipulation or revenge, both Scorpio shadows. Astrologer Stephanie Austin reminds us that November 18th marks the beginning of the Fifth Night in the Mayan Galactic Underworld, which lasts until November 12, 2008. In this period we will begin to see the breakdown of the materialistic paradigm. This period is ruled by the Mayan God of Darkness. It’s time to embrace spiritual rather than materialistic values.

By the time of the Full Moon on November 24th, the Sun will have moved into the lofty sign of Sagittarius. Hidden motives will come to light during this truth-revealing lunation. Are you ready to expand your consciousness, widen your perceptions and free yourself? The universe supports your efforts now.
