Libra

At the Fall Equinox on September 23, night and day are equal. Briefly, there is balance, then the scales tip once again. Days begin to shorten; the time for plants to grow is over. Symbolically, the time for working on me and my stuff is also over.
Now that I’ve refined myself in Virgo, it’s time to join you and enter the world of relationship. This is the time of Libra (September 23 – October 23). Libra and the five signs following focus on relationship with partners, teachers, bosses, friends, and finally, in Pisces, a merging with the oneness of divine consciousness.
But first Libra, the sign of the Scales, the only sign not under animal or human rulership. Libra is the second air sign, giving a focus on communication, the basis of relationship. Ideas are the realm of all air signs, and in Libra thoughts of balance and fairness prevail. The Libra mind is the most rational in the zodiac. No wonder it is the sign of the mediator and the judge. And because of this powerful balancing factor, Librans find it difficult to make small everyday decisions.
Libra, being under the rulership of Venus, is also one of the signs of beauty. In Libra is the beauty of proportion (the hour-glass figure), the beauty of contrast (brilliant Autumn leaf displays), and the beauty of motion (dancers). Libra is the sign of artists, fashion designers, decorators, and beauticians. The art gallery is Libra and so is the spa.
The October sky has the most beautiful sunsets. In fact, Libra is the sunset sign and its glyph is the sunset. Marriages (a Libra contract) right before sunset have the best chance for success. This is an honoring of the balance of opposites, also a Libra concept.
Libra is the sign of the other. Many astrologers have awaited discovery of a tenth planet, the true ruler of Libra, the planet of “the other,” joining us with the rest of the galaxy. That planet was sighted in 2003 and has been named Eris by astronomers. Her ancient name was Nibiru. Her orbit, highly elliptical, is 3600 years as she goes deep into the galaxy before return. She is presently in Aries, 400 years from her closest passing of Earth. She is the goddess of discord. And isn’t it interesting that after the heat of original attraction, every love nest turns into a Hell hole,”(Kent Baldridge) as the partner begins to reflect our shadow side. Because of this, conscious marriage is one of the quickest paths to enlightenment.
Finally, peace is the purpose of Libra. Any discord is upsetting. But how often is anything in perfect balance? That is the pain of Libra. And she must always be going between warring parties attempting to bring peace and reconciliation. Astrologer Nancy Cohen says Librans were born to save their parents’marriage. Librans are mostly pleasant people, but ironically there is an anger hidden underneath. That is because they can’t have their own feelings. They are too busy keeping the peace.
Libra rules the kidneys, balanced organs at the center of our bodies. Relationship problems show up as kidney problems or loss of equilibrium, an inner ear issue. Varicose veins often result from staying in bad relationships.
Love and flexibility are key words for October. Astrologer Tem Tarriktar says that during the first half of October we will “likely experience a major ‘reformulation’ that will open up many more possibilities. At the same time, the doors we have always used and relied on may close rather quickly.” Be willing to change, looking for opportunities in unexpected places. But don’t expect to move forward now as Mercury is turning retrograde (apparent backward motion) the night of October 11th, demanding rethinking, reformulating, and finishing old business. This is not a time for purchases of cars or electronics. Be very careful signing contracts. Finish old business and be ready to start fresh November 2nd.
The best days for purchases this month are October 2nd,3rd(am), 5th, 11th. The 16th, 20th and 21st(am) and good except for cars. Unless it’s an emergency, no surgeries October 25th – 29th.
The New Libra Moon October 10th asks for an honest evaluation of our relationships. It asks for commitment. Intend to love your partner; intend to share your heart. Intend to overlook.
By the time the moon fills, the Sun will have moved into the deeper sign of Scorpio. Scorpio energy is intense energy, amping up an already “Supermoon,”so hold on. The Full Taurus Moon on October is called a supermoon because the moon is at the point nearest earth now. Next month’s full moon will also be a supermoon, but without the Scorpionic intensity. To further augment the pressure of this month’s lunation, Pluto, ruler of Scorpio, is making its last exact contact with Galactic Center on October 28th for 248 years. Enormous amounts of electromagnetic waves pour forth from the giant black hole in the center of ourgalaxy. Pluto here supports radical severance from old and painful belief systems. It’s time to learn from our Buddhist brothers: suffering is in the mind.
