Gemini
June 1, 2007
Day and night, black and white; good and bad, happy and sad. This is a peek inside of Gemini, the first sign of mind. Gemini (May 20 – June 20) is the first air sign, where thought is born. As thought enters mind, it splits in two giving us the dual universe we inhabit. Making sense of this world is the job of Gemini, the sign of duality, the Twins.
Geminis are interesting, smart, and generally light-hearted as they skate along the surface of life. Geminis are the intelligent communicators of the zodiac. They love to talk. Writing ability also comes from Gemini. And because the need to make sense of things by imposing structure on life lives here, it was no doubt a Gemini who girded and gridded the earth with meridians.
Gemini is the most youthful of the signs. The Gemini man is synonymous with Peter the Pan, the boy who never grew up. Responsibility is a dirty word to the twins, who want to play first in this sandbox and then in that one. They are scared of commitment, often having one foot out the proverbial door.
Humor lives in Gemini as well as cruelty. This makes sense when you think that humor often involves laughing at other people’s weaknesses and mistakes—that slipping on the banana peel thing. The positive Gemini humor is the interesting turn of phrase, the unexpected and original use of words.
Besides the worlds of knowledge and communication, Gemini also rules brothers and sisters. People with communication issues or writers’ block might look to open channels with siblings. And Gemini rules short distance journeys. Coming and going: another aspect of the Twins.
Geminis love chit-chat, learning, noticing, news, maps, telephones, and cars. Hating boredom, routine is death to a Gemini.
The Gemini areas of the body are the upper respiratory system, shoulders, arms, and lungs. Too much responsibility makes Gemini’s shoulders ache; not enough breathing room gives Gemini a cough. Being around irritating people gives Gemini a sinus infection.
Because the moon is emptying the first half of June and Mercury is turning retrograde June 15th, this month is not good time for new beginnings of any kind. Especially after June 14th, don’t buy a car or any electronic equipment. Surgery is not recommend after June 14th. The morning of July 17th is the worst day this month for any new purchases or undertakings. It something must be begun this month, then June 5th is the best day. But beware of over-optimism or too much of anything.
As the month opens, we’re still under the influence of the Full Moon, that Blue Moon, from the end of last month, where shocking events were likely revealed. The New Mon of June 14th is rich in contradiction, already a problem for the Twins, as Pluto opposed the lunation where those unwilling to discard outmoded beliefs might feel squeezed. Astrologer Jeff Jawer says Pluto’s opposition to the Sun and Moon demands focus and decisiveness. Look for power struggles as well. A helpful aspect from Mars, strong now in its own sign of Aries, gives the quick reactions and courage necessary for turning crises into opportunities. This moon brings to light new information regarding mind and matter. Matter is mind, as it turns out. Thought creates.
By month’s end, the Sun will have moved to Cancer, the first water sign, symbolizing the emotional body and the importance of our feelings. On June 30th the moon will oppose this Cancer sun giving us the full Capricorn moon. We are likely to have thoughts now about how well we are nurturing our life goals. Are my ambitions in harmony with my heart? The need to feel our feelings is strong now. Suppressed emotion is stored in the body and will manifest as sickness if ignored. The Capricorn moon demands maturity, rewards efforts, and teaches consequences.
This Full Moon illuminates our emotional baggage and urges us to unpack it. If we are willing to do this we can become more of who we really are. “Wisdom tells me I am nothing. Love tells me I am everything. Between these two my life flows.” Nisargadatta Maharaj
